2019's Worst Network Sitcoms (as of 11/13/2019)

Since we just did an article on the top 5 sitcoms, we thought it would be fitting to look at the opposite end of the spectrum as well. So here are the worst performing sitcoms so far this year. At this rate, it is a possibility that none of these shows will not be coming back for another season. Here are the 5 worst:

1. Sunnyside

The bad news: Sunnyside got the worst ratings of any sitcom by far. The good news: it has already been put out of its misery in the form of cancellation. This freshman series is about a former New York City councilman, Garrett Modi, who was disgraced by an DUI incident. To make ends meet, he takes a job to help a bunch of ragtag immigrants become U.S. citizens. Although the cast is meant to be funny group of misfits from different backgrounds, the characters just ended up coming across as racist stereotypes. So it is not surprising that the show was cancelled after only four episodes were aired.

2. Family Guy

To be fair, as of this writing, only two episodes of Family Guy have aired so far this season. So things may certainly change. However, those two episodes have not fared well. In fact, it is currently getting the worst ratings of all Sunday night comedies. But Family Guy has an almost cult following. In fact, that is what made Fox renew it in 2005 after its initial cancellation in 2002, and the show has been on ever since. So there is a good chance it is safe from cancellation.

3. The Good Place

For whatever reason, this critically acclaimed show was just never able to catch on with viewers. The show follows 4 humans and how things are not as they appear as they try to change things for the better in "the good place". (The show never uses the words heaven or hell, but it is pretty obvious that is the setting.) Despite having a unique premise (or maybe because of it), the audience just kept shrinking with eash season. It has been announced that this will be the show's final season. Personally, I am looking forward to see how the story ends.

4. Perfect Harmony

This sitcom is a mixed bag. It is centered around Arthur Cochran, a former reputable music professor who decides to lead a church choir in a small rural town. On the one hand, this show has its charming moments. But on the other hand, it is hard to relate to the relationships between each of the characters because none of those relationship are really well defined. With time, I believe that it is possible for this show to find its grove as the characters gel more. But with its low ratings, it is hard to imagine that this show will get that chance with a second season.

5. Will & Grace

When the Will & Grace reboot was announced in 2017, there was A LOT of hype. In fact, there was so much hype that the show was renewed for a second season even before the first episode even aired. And as that first season came to a close, the show was already renewed for a third season. At the time, the renewal seem justified. After all, the premiere had more 10 million viewers. But unfortunately, the ratings couldn't keep up wit the hype. With almost each episode, the ratings dropped significantly. And now, the third season of the reboot premiered with under 2.3 million viewers. It has already been announced that this will be the reboot's last season. So here to hoping the reboot's finale will tie up all the loose end like the first Will & Grace finale did.
