Dramas make up almost 50% of all shows on network television. From family dramas to cop shows to sci-fi, there are plenty of options for different audiences. Here are to top five dramas in the 2019 television season so far.

1. NCIS

NCIS is amazingly in it's 17th season, and it shows no signs of stopping. It is still the #1 network drama on network TV by a wide margin. NCIS stands for Naval Criminal Investigative Service, and it's Major Case Response Team is led by Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Based in Washington D.C., Gibbs and his team investigates criminal cases within the U.S. Navy and the Marine Corp in this time-tested drama.

2. FBI

This show premiered in the 2018-2019 season with strong numbers, with more than 10 million viewers for its first episode. Like most shows, their numbers did fall, but it didn't fall by much. Now in its second season, their numbers are still holding strong around the 9 million viewer mark. The series showcases the inner workings of the FBI's New York office. Special Agent Maggie Bell, her partner Omar Adom Zidan, and the rest of the elite team utilizes various resources and technologies to keep the country safe in this gripping crime drama.

3. Chicago Med

There has always been a long history of medical dramas on TV, and Chicago Med strongly carries on that tradition. Chicago Med is actually the third series in a franchise of Chicago-based dramas from television producer Dick Wolf. It focuses on Gaffney Chicago Medical Center's emergency department and its doctors and nurses as they work to save patients' lives. Currently in its fifth seasons, Chicago Med has become the highest rated show in the Chicago franchise.

4. Chicago Fire

Chicago Fire was the first in the aforementioned Chicago franchise from Dick Wolf. The show follows the lives of the Chicago firefighters and paramedics as they regularly face life or death situations. In addition to emergencies, the series also features the interpersonal relationships in this tightly knit team. 2019 marks the eighth season of Chicago Fire, and it is still going strong with more than 7.5 million average viewers.

5. Blue Bloods

Like NCIS, Blue Bloods is a fan favorite that has stood the test of time. Now in its 10th season, it still has a very steady audience base of around 7.5 million viewers. The story follows the Reagans, a family centered around the New York Police Department. In each episode, the audience gets a glimpse into various aspects of police work or the legal process as represented by different members of the Reagan family.
