If you look at the graph above, you will see that the ratings for Dynamite and NXT have almost mimicked each other since March 25 for the most part. Except for one slight exception, whenever NXT's ratings went up, Dynamite's would as well. Similarly, whenever NXT's ratings went down, Dynamite's went down as well. This week, however, something interesting occurred. Although the margin wasn't anything drastic, Dynamite's ratings actually went up while NXT's went down. Here are the details.
Dynamite's audience went up from 654,000 last week to 701,000 this week, which is a jump of 7.2%. In regards to the show's 18-49 demographics rating, it also increased this week, going from 0.23 to 0.26.
NXT, on the other hand, saw its viewership decreased from last week's 604,000 to this week's 592,000. That's a small drop of 2.0%. The decrease in the show's 18-49 demographics rating was more significant, though. It fell from 0.15 last week to 0.13 this week.
In regards to Raw's and Smackdown's ratings, Raw took a big hit this week. It lost that majority of the gain that it was able to garner last week, making this week's episode the second lowest rated episode in history. Smackdown, though, actually saw a small improvement in the ratings this week.
The size of Raw's audience decreased by a big 8.4%, falling from 1,918,667 viewers last week to 1,757,333 viewers this week. The show's 18-49 demographics rating also decreased, falling from 0.57 last week to 0.51 this week.
Smackdown fared better, with its audience growing from 2,025,000 viewers last week to 2,042,000 viewers this week. That's a small bump of 0.8%. The show's 18-29 demographics rating remained the same at 0.5 between the two weeks.
The fact that Dynamite's and NXT's ratings have been rising and falling together suggests that both shows have a loyal following at this point, because it shows that the audience hasn't been moving from one show to the other. Instead, any changes to the shows' ratings are caused by outside factors such as another sporting event on tv. For example, when UFC held an event on the evening of Wednesday, May 13, we saw the rating for both NXT and Dynamite fall. However, with Dynamite's and NXT's ratings diverging this week, a few interesting theories come to mind. Is the AEW show getting a bump because this was the go-home show before the promotion's Double or Nothing pay-per-view this weekend? Did this week's card stir a lot of interest among fans? Or is it simply the case that the ratings had no where to go but up since the show's ratings fell to an all-time low last week? All of these are possibilities, but it doesn't necessarily explan why NXT's ratings fell. So perhaps, just perhaps, Dynamite was able to steal a chunk of NXT's audience this week. And if that's really the case, this could be an indication of where the Wednesday Night Wars are heading.
Regardless of what happens in the future, the winning streak for Dynamite has now just been extended to five weeks in a row. This makes Dynamite's general win-loss record in the Wednesday Night Wars 27-5-1 for viewership and 32-1 for the 18-49 demographic. In turn, NXT's win-loss record is now 5-27-1 for viewership and 1-32 for the 18-49 demographic.
